Englischer Fachbeitrag anlässlich der Konferenz Gasverdichter in Albuquerque:

Various methods can be implemented to reduce high pipeline vibrations at plants. If the vibration excitation cannot be reduced further, measures such as isolation, damping or absorption of the vibrations are possible. For the case of high pipeline vibrations excited from a reciprocating compressor with variable speed it is often not easy to shift the natural frequencies of the pipeline out of the critical frequency domain. On the other hand an increasing damping force results in an increasing vibration level of the surrounding area.

This paper shows as an alternative method the design and use of a newly developed dampened vibration absorber system (“Magic Cube”) for the reduction of pipeline vibration. After an introduction of the theory, the advantages and disadvantages are discussed and illustrated in the paper on the basis of a case study.

In a natural gas storage measurements were taken to check the cause for high pipeline vibrations of a reciprocating compressor system. Out of different feasible measures, the absorber system was chosen and installed at the pipeline. Final measurements showed the effect on the vibration reduction and validated the effectiveness of the “Magic Cube”.
