Juni 2005 - Pulsation Study for two 2,250 bar Hyper Compressors – Measurement, Theory, Measures –

Englischer Beitrag für das EFRC 2005 in Antwerpen, Belgien:

In a LDPE-plant of DOW in Leuna, East Germany, two hyper compressors are operating in parallel. In order to improve the product quality, it was planned to increase the static pressure on the discharge side of two hyper compressors from a level of 2250 bar to 2400 bar. By means of suitable measures a release of the safety valves in the planning situation caused by pulsation related pressure peaks had to be prevented. Additionally, a safe and reliable operation of the plant from vibration technical aspects had to be ensured.

For processing a numerical model of the A-flow and B-flow of both compressors was established. Using the model the unsteady flows within the piping were calculated. The model was compared to the measured data. Finally, the phase shift between the running compressors was determined with the aim of minimum pressure fluctuations in both flows. Furthermore, the effect of branch off resonators was examined.
